The school, as an institution characteristic of the advent of modernity, participates, in historical terms, in the double movement of ‘delocalisation’ and ‘relocalisation’ of social life. Thus, the school is a tributary and participates in the changes that historically mark the transition from Ancien Régime societies to modern industrial societies, and, from this point of view, the school was born in a rupture with the local. On the other hand, school practices today are marked by a reference to the necessary recontextualisation of school education, which has brought the debate on the relationship between school and place to the fore.
