Abstract

The constructs of adaptability, perceived employability and self-efficacy have been referred to as critical processes in career development and management, particularly to higher education students preparing their transition to the labor market. In this context, the research has highlighted the importance of work experiences in promoting skills that facilitate the transition to working life. However, empirical studies focusing on the influence of real work environment experiences on the career development process do not present sufficient and conclusive results. This study (N = 391; 80.6% female) aimed to analyze the differences between full time students (71.6 %) and student workers (28.4%), regarding career adaptability, perceived employability and self-efficacy to work transition. The results were favorable to student workers group for all the assessed variables. Lastly, we discussed the implications of these results for the practices of higher education institutions that support employability.
