Abstract

Considering the rise, on several continents, of extremist ideologies of a nationalist and neoliberal nature, Paulo Freire's thought is more important today than ever before, and the possibilities offered by the new technologies are an excellent starting point for revisiting his perspectives. Bringing together Freire's thought and the universe of serious video games, this article explores the construction of an empirical framework articulating the perspectives of 73 teachers, researchers and students from Higher Education institutions in Porto on their experience in 10 workshops on serious video games and Freire's key concepts such as «generating themes», «oppression» or «consciencialization». It is sought that this article can constitute as a founding element to deepen the intersection between Freire and the serious games.
