The curricular unit Authorial Photography: Individual Project has played a clear role in identifying and mapping each student’s area of interest within the broader (or expanded, to bring R. Krauss into the conversation) context of photography. In the final year of the course, project-based practice intensifies, although it is already encouraged in previous years. Developing, advancing, and completing a project is very important, with particular attention given to each student’s specificity. With the guidance of two fixed tutors, weekly follow-up sessions are held, predominantly through individual tutorials and occasionally in group sessions. Twice a semester, we create an opportunity for students to exhibit and present projects that showcase both their working processes and final results. At these times, we are visited by some professors, artists, and researchers, who engage in individual dialogues with each student – a consistently productive exchange. As an extension of the academic context into the professional world, at the end of each academic year, we prepare and organise a final exhibition in collaboration with the students, held in an exhibition space. Through strategic partnerships, we have presented these exhibitions in venues such as Pavilhão 31 (P28), Imago Garage (Galeria Imago), Cooperativa Penhasco, and Plataforma Revólver, among others.
Neste último ano letivo de 2022-23, apresentamos no contexto do projeto Contrast, o trabalho de qua- tro alunos finalistas da licenciatura: André Paulino, Beatriz Pilre, Duarte Manhita e Maria Judas. Os projetos destes alunos tocam em temáticas como identidade, memória, fragilidade, família e arquivo, espelhando bem alguns dos caminhos da fotografia contemporânea.
O projeto Kaus de André Paulino, desenvolve-se através de um mergulho no interior de um estado psíquico onde a velocidade de imagens e pensa- mentos se atropelam num aparente contexto de desordem. O resultado é uma instalação de texto e imagens em diversos suportes: um manifesto, imagens repetitivas gravadas em chapa metálica e objetos audiovisuais para multi-ecrãs de vídeo e som.
O projeto Elos de Beatriz Pilré, revela parte de uma viagem de autoconhecimento em torno dos laços familiares marcados pelas figuras femininas da mãe e avós. Este projeto percorre as tradições específi- cas de uma região (Glória do Ribatejo), revelando corpos, identidades, rituais e paisagens, que por meio da fotografia singularizam muito a sua forma de imaginar essa realidade.
Duarte Manhita desenvolveu um conjunto fotográ- fico intitulado 01.C.18, em torno de uma arquite- tura hospitalar menos visível. Espaços de arquivo, arrumos e laboratórios hospitalares que, sob uma iluminação cénica e com planos de natureza cine- matográfica, tornam visíveis narrativas tensas e dramáticas, quer pelas ações suspensas, quer pela sugestão constante de movimentos que sublinham a ausência humana.
