Environmental education strategies in addressing the climate emergency A case study with women from a rural community
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article presents a case study in a rural community in the region of Galicia, based on the development of an environmental education project aiming at a low-carbon ecosocial transition. For the case study, narratives were collected with women over 65 years old, living in the rural community of Lavacolla. Based on the analysis of women’s narratives, the ways in which the global climate emergency is experienced at the local and community level stand out, as well as their intersections with the challenges and daily experiences of the participating women. Memories of the past are narrated and reflected upon, in order to foster the construction of perspectives on sustainable climate futures. The results show the potential of projects based on activities and dynamics that start from the needs and experiences of communities towards a lifestyles’ decarbonization, fostering individual and collective change.
