Undeveloped practices, unconstructed futures The promotion of participation in the child’s protection act
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to understand how the child protection policy integrates the promotion of
participation as a dimension of child protection. The authors used a qualitative methodology and interviewed
three magistrates. The content analysis of the interviews made possible to conclude that: there
is a consensus about the importance of participation for the healthy development of the child; there
is a clear perception that the policies caution this dimension enough; there is also consensus about
the huge gap between the law and the practice; and, finally, the interviewees assume that a long but
necessary route may be developed with regard to the practices of child care institutions.
