Abstract
The purpose of this article is to discuss and examine consumption as a cultural and social practice established in the daily routine of individuals, especially in regard to western society.
We explore certain features of consumption in today’s society, including purposes of consumption such as pleasure and happiness. The study approaches the idea of individuals as consumers and focuses on the dynamics of the social and cultural relationships present in our daily routine. The theoretical background is based mainly on the work of Polish sociologist Zygmunt Bauman and French philosopher and sociologist Gilles Lipovetsky. Examining the social, economic and political phenomena that exist today, the article touches on current culture globalization and discusses the phenomena of consumption that now seems to determine ways of existing and living.
