Fight against early school leaving in France What’s the problem?
Main Article Content
Abstract
The fight against early school leaving, as defined at European level, requires national adaptations. After presenting the state of knowledge on early school leaving in France, this article tries to trace the way in which this phenomenon has become a problem and how it has been included in the political agenda across Europe and in France. It then shows that the problem of early school leaving is less in the absence of certification of early school leavers than in the slip of young graduates onto low skill level jobs. In conclusion, the article points out the limits of a struggle against dropout which does not ensure the continuity of the pathways of unqualified young people.
