Abstract
Almost two years after the passing of Stephen R. Stoer (1943–2005), the CIIE (at the University of Porto’s Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences) commissioned us to organise a selection of his works for this issue of Educação, Sociedade & Culturas—a journal of which he was, in fact, the first editor-in-chief. We aimed to gather a collection of texts that reflect Stephen R. Stoer’s thought and analytical trajectory, to make some of his less accessible works available, and to highlight perspectives or approaches that are particularly stimulating, promising, or significant within the field of social-scientific research on education. In doing so, we seek to contribute to mapping out his body of work.
