Abstract

Reproduction by Pierre Bourdieu and Jean-Claude Passeron (1977) is a work that seeks to explain how class societies reproduce themselves and how, in doing so, they reproduce the inequalities that are inherent to them. Bourdieu and Passeron set out to ‘dismantle’ the mechanism of reproduction: how exactly is the structure of class relations reproduced? As we will see below, according to them, the answer lies in the ways in which cultural reproduction contributes to, or is related to, social production.
