Abstract

In the context of 19th Century South American independence revolutions, the Venezuelan pedagogue and writer Simón Rodríguez, teacher of Simón Bolívar, developed an educative project
that intended to disrupt with the mind of the dominated, as colonial subject trough the social subject reconstruction. This project called Social Education consists of allowing the subject to think for itself. Rodríguez was considered a crazy eccentric for his pedagogical ideas and practices. This paper aims to argue the importance of insubordinate view in Rodríguez’s thought and pedagogy, called robinsonian pedagogy, which delineates South American’s narrow relations between education, art and politics. With this purpose and within the border cultural pedagogy perspective Rodríguez’s thoughts were analyzed and the contiguity between art, education and research in his work is observed. Aligned with this pedagogy, it is proposed a Visual Education that encourages an insubordinate and queer view.
